Brad (BSCE 97, MSCE 99) and Jennifer (Guggisberg - BS MIS/TrLog 99) Estochen welcomed daughter, Brooke Elizabeth, in September 2009. Proud big sisters are Kylie and Neela.

Benjamin T. Gaul and Stacey M. Carlson got engaged in Kansas City, MO on August 7, 2009 and plan to be married on August 7, 2010 in Waterloo, Iowa. Ben and Stacey both graduated with Sports Management degrees in Spring 2006. They got their professional engagement pictures taken on ISU's campus in October 2009.

We welcomed our newest little Cyclone, Elise Elizabeth Uhl, on Thursday, November 19th at 8:23 am. She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and was 21 inches long.

I received my Master's in Secondary School Counseling from Drake University in May 2009.

Adam and I met while working at Parks Library -- our first real conversation was a discussion of the ISUCF'V'MB, which I had participated in and he was still a member of. It's been almost 7 years since that first chat and we are now married and living in Roland (about 20 minutes NE of Ames). We both enjoy participating in Alumni Band and cheering for the Cyclones.

Wayne Hanno** ('87 mechn. engr.), a Principal Control Systems Engineer with Stanley Consultants, has been named Control Systems Chief. In this capacity, he will represent the company nationwide as a technical authority on control systems, provide senior level technical expertise on major projects, and serve as a senior technical consultant on complex issues. He is a licensed professional engineer in nine states, and has over 20 years of experience in the design, engineering, installation, and operation of instrumentation and control systems. He has been with Stanley Consultants since 1998.

Dr. Michael Severin (BS, Zoology 2005, DVM, Veterinary Medicine 2006) and Kipp Van Dyke (BS, Family Services 2002) recently completed writing the freshmen guidebook, “The Voice of College: The Freshmen Experience.” It started as an idea as both were student leaders at Iowa State and over the last few years came to fruition as Mike finished vet school and Kipp continued his career working with college students. Russell ("Rusty") Bishop** ('91 finance) was awarded the Volunteer Innovation Award from the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) in 2009. After joining the Be The Match Registry as a potential bone marrow donor, he was matched with a young girl in need of a transplant. He donated his bone marrow in 2001, and since then has found unique ways to raise awareness about bone marrow donation and to recruit donors. He organized and participated in endurance runs as fundraisers to raise awareness and money to support the life-saving work of the NMDP. In 2008, the Iowa Marrow Donor Program nominated Rusty for the Inspiring Soles competition, an online contest to recognize individuals who engage in extreme athletic activities that inspire others to perform acts of charity. When he was chosen as a finalist, he contributed his $5,000 prize to the Iowa Marrow Donor Program. He went on to win the national contest, including the grand prize of $30,000, which he again donated to help add more members to the Be The Match Registry.

Robert Storm* ('40 DVM) enjoyed his many years of veterinary small animal practice. He also took care of Brookfield Zoo (Chicago) animals before the zoo hired a full-time veterinarian. He has been retired for many years and has had the opportunity to travel to many areas of the world. Now unable to travel, he enjoys his many friends and activities at Luther Village, where he lives in Arlington Heights, IL.

Ana Hays (’84, BS) was recently promoted to director of marketing and communications at Hospice of the Valley in San Jose, California where she is directing the organizations re-branding initiative, external communications, clinical outreach and referral development, and sponsorship and fundraising efforts to support educational program outreach. Previously, Hays worked in academia where she led executive education programs and fund development events at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as the associate director of conferences and special events and at Stanford Law School as the director of executive education. For Hewlett-Packard Company and Agilent Technologies she managed the internal employee volunteer fundraising campaigns raising greater than $18 million in employee/corporate contributions for a multitude of charities. During her tenure at the Chicago Historical Society, she managed the volunteer boards and their fund development efforts. With a creative and business writing background, Hays’ writing has appeared in Chicken Soup for the Adopted Soul, Walnut Creek Magazine, Sybase Magazine and other publications. She is the former columnist and associate publisher of Maui Vision Magazine. Additionally Hays has worked with and promoted best-selling author Alan Cohen, as well as inspirational authors and motivational speakers such as Dr. Wayne Dyer and Sonja Choquette.

Jane Woline** ('91 fam. svcs.) sent a picture of her granddaughter Eleonor (Ellie) Miller, 4-year-old daughter of Jane's daughter and son-in-law, Emily ('02 English) and Perry (MS '95 mech. engr.; PhD '00) Miller. The Millers and their three children live in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Jane notes that if Ellie decides to attend ISU, she will be the fifth generation of Jane's family to attend Iowa State.

Donald Rosen** (MS '75 Psych; PhD '78) received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors on October 27, 2009, at the 2009 AUCCCD annual conference. The award recognizes and honors AUCCCD members who have provided outstanding service to AUCCCD and exemplary leadership in the field of College and University Counseling Centers. Donald recently retired as the director of the Counseling Center at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas after 21 years of service there. Prior to that, he worked in the ISU Student Counseling Service from 1983 to 1988.

James S. Balloun** ('60 indus. engr.) is the retired chairman and chief executive officer of Acuity Brands, Inc. He resides in Atlanta, Ga. and is involved with several agencies in that city, namely, as a trustee of the Woodruff Arts Center, as emeritus trustee of the Westminster Schools, and as past chairman and life trustee of The Commerce Club. He is also on the board of directors of Invesco Mortgage Capital, Inc., Radiant Systems, Inc., Enzymatic Deinking Technologies, and Unisen/StarTrac, and he serves as vice-chairman of the board of the Jasper Ocean Terminal Project Office. James and his wife, Julia, have two children and four grandchildren.

Rich and I met at Iowa State and celebrated our 20th anniversary this year. Love each other, love the Cyclones!

Jeffrey N. King* ('77 MS analytical chem.; '85 PhD) is a recipient of the Roger W. Truesdail Award, which recognizes significant contributions to the betterment of the independent scientific, engineering, and testing community. The award is affiliated with the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL). Jeffrey is the co-founder and Laboratory Director of Keystone Laboratories, Inc. of Newton, Iowa. Keystone provides environmental testing services through its three laboratories in Newton and Waterloo, Iowa, and Kansas City, Kansas. Before founding Keystone in 1989, he spent eleven years in the Environmental Services Laboratory at the Maytag Corporation in Newton. Prior to that, he worked as a Research Chemist for Hach Chemical Company in Loveland, Colorado. Hecurrently resides in Newton, Iowa.
