    Mary Helen (Merriam) Stewart (’41 chem.) was a delegate to the 29th Triennial Convention of Iota sigma Pi, Honor Society for Women in Chemistry, held last summer. She notes that many of the women involved had Iowa State connections, including Patricia Thiel, distinguished professor of chemistry at ISU, who received the award of National Honorary Member. This is the highest honor that Iota Sigma Pi bestows on women chemists. Mary Helen lives in Maquoketa, Iowa.

The story is told from each of their very different perspectives. Charity is a public radio host at Michigan Radio in Ann Arbor. She lives in Dexter Michigan with her husband Rob Parrish (Psych 1996) and their two children Audrey and Carter.

    Ken Sweeney ('59 Landscape Architecture) has recently completed a two year term as president of the North Olympic Land Trust. Sweeney and his wife Sue operate a 70 acre sporthorse farm in Port Angeles, WA, where they provide schooling facilities for Pony Club event riders from throughout Western Washington. In 2003 they placed a conservation easement on the farm to assure that it will continue to be available for equestrian activities into the future.

    Mark D. Sorenson** ('85 fin.) has wrapped up another Red Ribbon Dinner & Great Art Auction, a fund raiser for AIDS Project Quad Cities. This year marked the 15th Annual event supporting the agency in it's 21st year of existence. The all volunteer effort this year raised a record $109,000.00 before expenses which are on track to be less than 20%! This year marked a change in the date of the event, a change in venue and a change in the type of entertainment proffered at evenings end. The art and other auction items available to the patrons out shown anything seen in the past. A survey was distributed that evening and all the responses received to date are highly complimentary of everything that changed, especially the locale and the singer who provided entertainment. Klinge* (’07 arch.) was recognized by the American Institute of Architects with the Award of Merit as Runner-Up in the Gondola Design competition Oct. 8 at the 2007 Design on the Delaware Conference. The Gondola Design Competition was intended to develop a prototype for the fabrication of new freestanding merchandise display structures for the AIA Bookstore and Design Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Of the submissions, three designs were recognized. Nathan lives in Ames.

She lives in Springfield, Ill.

Prospect, Illinois on June 25, 1999. In 2003, they welcomed the birth of their daughter Sophia Michele and in 2005 their son Daniel Ricardo. Cesar continues to work as the sales manager for the Latin America Region for F.C.P.A. Cesar and his family reside in Crystal Lake, Ill. and look forward coming back to ISU for Homecoming every year.

Jay is with Itron and I have my own business selling my handspun yarns. Our son graduated from ISU in business management information systems, summer 2006. He has a real job with Lands End. Our daughter graduated from Kirkwood Community College, 2005 with a degree in equestrian science. She is living in Bozeman Montana.

    Matthew Capo** ('85 sp. comm.) opened the second clinic for Accelerated Physical Therapy and Occupational Health, Inc. in Diamondhead, Mississippi in Sept. 2007. Our first clinic in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina but has been rebuilt and re-opened Februay 2007. We have plans for a third clinic to be opened by summer 2008 in Biloxi, Mississippi. On a personal note, the house destroyed in Katrina was rebuilt and we are thrilled! We have four children, Kyle-age 6, Adisson-age 4, Hailey-age 2 and Mallory-age 1. The Capo family lives in Diamondhead, Miss.

After a honeymoon in San Francisco, the couple resides in Iowa City.

    Tamara Flarup** ('75 PEW) was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) national Hall of Fame on July 3, 2007, at their annual workshop in San Diego. She is just the seventh woman inducted on the 50th anniversary of the organization. Flarup has been at the University of Wisconsin Athletic Dept. since 1977 first as their director of women's sports information, and now as the Director of Web Site Services. Tamara lives in Madison, Wis.

    Duane Ohnemus** (’83 animal sci.) writes to inform us that Ohnemus Farms, Inc., has received the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association’s environmental stewardship award for 2007. He and his wife, Mary Jo Ohnemus, own and operate a family farm in Milo that includes an Angus and polled Hereford purebred cowherd, a small feedlot and crops of corn, soybeans, and hay. The family has installed many miles of tile and terraces and maintains protective cover on the land. Their cattle rotationally graze permanent pastures. Crop fields are minimum-tilled or no-tilled to preserve crop residues. They have built or maintained 11 ponds to control erosion and provide ample watering sources. Duane recently served as chairman of the Whitebreast Creek Watershed Project.

I remarried in February of 2006 to Annette Tiffany. Our combined family of six children is doing well. We have two boys in college, two girls in high school, and two boys in middle school. He completed the PGA Class A professional program in 2006, winning the Acushnet Company award for the top apprentice test scores in southern California. Scott lives in Indian Wells, Calif.

Helen was recognized for her more than 40 years of leadership and many other outstanding contributions to the family and consumer sciences profession. Helen lives in Ft. Collins, Colo.

    David Vanek** (’59 forestry) closed his general surgery/vascular/trauma practice in 2005. David now works as a surgeon four to five months per year. His children, Matthew and Lilly, both are in college, enjoying the pursuit of business and nutrition majors while playing football and running track. He and his wife, Gretchen, will be spending six months a year in Nicaragua and six months in Idaho. Time for hiking, camping, and fishing has grown exponentially for the couple. David has great thoughts of Iowa State, many friends, and he still follows the Cyclones.
