Professional food photographer Brent Herrig offers these tips for taking the best quality photo with your phone to share on Instagram.

1. Know your camera.

Camera applications inherently go to a middle-grade setting. Change the settings to make sure you're capturing at the highest quality.

2. Clean the lens.

We put the camera in and out of our pocket 200 times a day. Fingerprints and the oils from our hands are on that lens. Take the time to clean it.

3. Composition is key.

Turn on grid lines. Play around where you position leading lines. Don't be afraid to move things around. Control where your viewer’s eye goes.

4. Lighting.

Never use your camera flash. Ask to be seated by the window. Bring the food towards the light.
